061 Ammonites

$300.00

061 Ammonites: This vase gourd is covered with ammonites that evolved from water. In prehistoric times ammonites ruled the seas. They were carnivores that ranged in size from less than an inch to more than nine feet in diameter. They had squid-like tentacles – resembling what we know today as the Pacific Nautilus and even cuttlefish. They appeared in the Jurassic era & survived three mass extinctions - one in which warming obliterated 95% of marine species.

This piece is representative of all the fossils left behind buried in rock & clay. Over their final million years their evolution was explosive & yet sixty-six million years ago the seas disappeared as did the ammonites. How nice to have a piece of ancient history sitting on a reception table or with like items on a shelf. Stand included. Dimensions: 18 x 8” weight 1# without stand. Stand included.
