Desert Shekere. The shekere is a West Africa percussion instrument that now appears in cultures around the world. It is played by gently striking the bottom and sides which activates the beads. This stylized rendition in soft patina has the botanicals of Australia around the rim. The beading is a collection of handmade polymer beads, lava, glass and bone as well as Fair-Trade wooden beads all suspended on dyed nylon string. It is a wonderful focal piece that could stand on its own or would make a great addition to a collection. The gourd is pyro-etched, painted and dyed. It is completely sealed inside and out. Dimensions: 13 x 8" weight 1.3#.
